Happy 12-12-12! Lucky or not?

12-12-12

Everyone is all a buzz today about the date 12-12-12.  Many say this is an extremely lucky day.  There will not be another date like this until 1-1-2101!  People have planned to have babies on this day and thousands are flocking to get married.  Numerologists say that the number 12 is associated with “enjoyment, emotions, creative expression, sadness, rejuvenation and rebirth.”  I guess this, coupled with the uniqueness of the date is why so much is happening today.

Best Belly-Blasting Supplements

I have really started to love the Dr. Oz show.  I get many tips for staying healthy and for common ailments by watching it.  Now that is is getting closer to summer, many men have been talking about women staying in shape.  This is very annoying to me.  As if women want men with a gut!  To help all of us bust a little belly fat for the summer, here are some tips from Dr. Oz.

Best Belly-Blasting Supplements

Originally posted on 02/17/2012 on The Dr. Oz Show website

If you feel like your belly is bringing you down, don’t just stand idly by and watch it grow. There are plenty of effective and affordable supplements and foods you can try to help you lose that extra bulge.

We all put on weight for different reasons – and belly fat is no exception. Whether a declining metabolism is to blame or stress-induced eating is your dietary downfall, there are ways to thwart a ballooning belly. Your stomach doesn’t have to weigh you down any longer. Excessive bloating that makes every pair of pants you own feel two sizes too small doesn’t have to be part of your daily routine. There are four belly-blasting supplements that can help you feel better about your body. And as a bonus, Dr. Oz reveals three belly-blasting meals to help you whittle away your waistline.

Supplement to Boost Your Metabolism: 7-Keto

If your expanding belly is the result of a slowing metabolism, then 7-Keto may be the supplement you need. 7-Keto is a natural byproduct of the DHEA hormone in our own bodies that helps to keep us young. But as we age, the levels of DHEA and its byproduct 7-Keto drop – this begins to happen after you turn 30 – slowing your metabolism and resulting in weight gain. 7-Keto works to counter this by stimulating the thyroid to permanently raise your metabolism’s set point, or your resting metabolic rate, which is based on your body’s amount of fat and muscle. A lower metabolism means more fat, and a higher metabolism means more muscle. Once 7-Keto raises your metabolic set point, your body’s engines can begin burning faster, resulting in less weight gain and a trimmer belly, especially when combined with diet and exercise.

My Summer of Water – Choosing to Filter

Brita-Faucet

Wow, the time sure does fly by! I cannot believe that it has almost been 60 days since I started my Summer of Water Challenge” but it has! I was not very sure when I started this challenge that I would actually be able to do it. But it is almost over and I will tell you that my water consumption will not end. But my journey of drinking water this summer has led to a new lifestyle in more ways than one.

When I first started my summer of water, I went out and bought a lot from the store. Deer Park was always my water of choice. Normally I would by the individual bottles because it was also what I was putting in my son’s lunch for a drink while he was attending summer camp. I went into this challenge thinking that I would spend less money on drinks by simply buying water and not all of the other drinks I would frequently buy. However, that really was not the case. By making the choice to buy only water, and some apple juice for my son, I noticed that I was actually spending more money. I found myself going to the store more often just to purchase water. Now, no one really wants to drink the city tap water but it really did not make much sense to me to continue to spend all of this money on water. Knowing how much money I was spending and taking an environmental science class during my summer of water, led me to make another decision with how I obtain my water.

Sandcastle building with the grandkids

Guest post written by Rodger Willows

I really do love it when all of us meet up together at my son and daughter-in-law’s beach house for a week or two during the summer. If I had it my way we would stay there a whole lot longer. I actually could, being retired and all, but it just isn’t the same without the grandkids around all the time there. We actually just spent last weekend there with them and we had so much fun.

A few weeks before we went I was reading some news online and saw the site http://hearingaids.miracle-ear.com/hearing_aid_prices.html. I read through it and decided to get some hearing aids finally. I thought that spending the weekend with my family would be an excellent time to test them out anyway.

I really could tell a difference just with my interactions with my grandkids. It’s always great to know that you’re building the sandcastle exactly how they’re telling you so that it will win their pretend contest. The judges seemed to like our work, but they were a little partial since they were my grandkids.

Day 5 of My Summer of Water

Since I started the 60-Day Hydration Challenge, I feel pretty good about my progress.  I have met my water goal of 60 oz every day.  I did not realize up until now how little water I was actually drinking.  When I mentioned to someone at a neighborhood party what I was doing, they asked me, “Is that a lot of water to drink?”  They did admit to me that drinking water was never an issue for them.  It was something they had been doing since high school.  For me, it was a different story.  At one point and time, I used to love water but over the past few years, I have just gotten comfortable with my juice, soda, sweet and green tea.  I saw this as a challenge and approach it that way every day. » Read more..

Deciding To Make Healthier Choices

I am normally pretty conscious about my appearance.  I do try to work out and have recently become addicted to Zumba.  Even with the exercise, I am not reaching the goals where I want to be.  I think a lot of it has to do with my diet. I normally eat what I want to eat and then just try to work it off.  One of the major things that I feel like I can not live without is my daily diet soda. On a bad day or on a day that I feel like I need a little more energy, I will have more than one.  Since I know many people that drink soda all day, I did not think my one to two a day addiction was that bad.  But, after a friend of mine that works with the health department started to tell me all of the negative effects of drinking sodas, I started to think about it a little differently.  ”You need to drink WATER,” she said.  I do drink a little water daily but I know it is not enough.  What she said did not immediately make me stop drinking sodas either. But recently I ran across a local non-profit that I follow on Twitter that is challenging everyone to drink more water.  This is the perfect opportunity for me to try and drink more water and less sodas!  After they asked me if I was in on their challenge the other day, I decided to sign up. » Read more..

Doctor Oz Discusses the Over 40 Survival Kit

Here is a great article I found on Best Syndication about common problems women face after turning 40 straight from Dr. Oz!  Enjoy!

(Best Syndication News) Doctor Mehmet C Oz provided solutions to common problems women face after they turn 40 years old. Women complain about aching knees, memory problems and a reduced metabolism.

“This show is very special,” Oz told his audience Monday.

Aching Joints

Author and orthopedic physical therapist Peggy Brill provided a solution for throbbing knees. Inflammation can cause pain.

Brill said a sink / toilet plunger can be used on the knees to provide relief. She said that the suction will prevent the cracking and popping of the knee. Audience member Angela said it felt good.

Biofreeze gel is another solution. It can cool-down the joint. It is also good for the neck, back and knees. » Read more..
