Since I started the 60-Day Hydration Challenge, I feel pretty good about my progress. I have met my water goal of 60 oz every day. I did not realize up until now how little water I was actually drinking. When I mentioned to someone at a neighborhood party what I was doing, they asked me, “Is that a lot of water to drink?” They did admit to me that drinking water was never an issue for them. It was something they had been doing since high school. For me, it was a different story. At one point and time, I used to love water but over the past few years, I have just gotten comfortable with my juice, soda, sweet and green tea. I saw this as a challenge and approach it that way every day.
Even though I am happy with the way I have progressed so far, this challenge is not just about drinking water. Yes, I have met my water goals everyday but I am looking forward to making some progress in some other areas too. In these first five days, I have not yet been able to conquer my one soda a day addiction. I think most of it has to do with the caffeine intake so I am going to try and replace it with coffee instead. I know there are some issues with the caffeine consumption. The packet I received when I signed up for the challenge also validates that. But, I have also heard some good things about the antioxidants in coffee too. Plus, it does not have the carbonation that soda has. Even though I still am drinking the soda, I have cut down some. I have found myself not completely finishing them which for me, in this short period of time, is progress.
The 4th of July holiday was not too hard for me. It was very low key and I did not have or attend a large cook out. I did slip once when my sister bought a little touch of home over with some steamed blue crabs. That is when I did have one alcoholic beverage. Other than that, I got through the holiday fine. Me and my water!
On to day 6!
